Flip Flops On The Ground

President Obama promised that we would not have "boots on the ground" in Libya. He promised. Yet he had barely uttered the words before he sent in troops to rescue a downed pilot. Then he secretly signed an order for North Carolina Marines to head to Libya. Now he has, once again secretly, sent in CIA teams to assist the rebels who are fighting the Qaddafi government of Libya.

Of course Obama can do that since Qaddafi is not leading any "Libyan people" according to Obama. Only the rebels are Libyan. President Obama said so. Just like he said we would not have "boots on the ground" just before he "flip flopped" and sent in "flip flops on the ground." That must be what our troops are wearing. Obama would not lie.

Perspective On The Budget

There is a lot of non sense being spread around on the U.S. Expenditures and the resulting U.S. debt. The reality is the following:

During Bill Clinton's last year in office, 2000, the U.S. Government spent $3.3 trillion and the national debt was $5.8 trillion.

During George W. Bush's first year in office, 2001, the U.S. Government spent $3.4 trillion. Then after 9/11, late in 2001, expenditures rose sharply. By 2007, the U.S. Government spent $4.5 trillion. Then Bush decided to interfere with the free market system and in 2008, the Wall Street bailout drove U.S. expenditures up to $5 trillion and the U.S. debt was $10 trillion, a $4 trillion increase from the last year of Clinton.

In his first year in office, 2009, Barack Obama skyrocketed U.S. government expenditures to $6.2 trillion, a $1.2 trillion increase. They rose again in 2009 to $6.7 trillion. This was at a time when tax revenues had collapsed due to the economy and we had less money to spend.

In two short years Obama is closing in on increasing our national debt as much as Bush increased it in 8 years. It was below $10 trillion at the end of Bush's last term, having increased $4 trillion under Bush, and is now over $14 trillion with the astronomical increases in expenditures that have occurred under Obama. We are racing towards bankruptcy.

Yet the American people, according to Republican leadership, will not tolerate any serious reduction in spending. The Republicans are proposing that we use 2010 as a baseline and start nibbling at the budget. Their pitiful cuts of $61 billion leave us spending that includes $1.5 trillion in deficits this year. That is nearly three times the highest deficit ever under Bush, which both Democrats and fiscal conservative Republicans denounced at the time.

If anyone was serious about avoiding national bankruptcy, we would at a minimum, go back to the budget of 2009. To do that would require $500 billion in reductions to the national expenditures. That is less than half the increase since Obama took office and is merely going back one year! ONE YEAR! Republicans are only proposing about 1/10th of that reasonable proposal. Does that sound serious to you?

Though democrats railed at the "stupidity" of deficits half as big under Bush as they are spending, they have been outraged at the suggestion they are worse than Bush. Public employee unions are rioting at the suggestion that their outrageous salaries, benefits and pensions should dare be cut by any amount.

Does America have the will to avoid the looming national bankruptcy? It does not appear we do.

Reality Is In Short Supply
When Obama Lies

The United States is now an active participant in a UN "no fly zone". It is not a war. It is a kinetic military action. A fraudulent meaningless name specifically invented to avoid calling what we are doing war.

So let's look at this non-war "no fly zone" and see what it means. It started with shooting down planes, bombing airports and destroying anti-aircraft facilities to protect the allied planes that were doing all the "no fly zone" enforcement. Yet it quickly was determined that Libya had adjusted to our efforts and was continuing to win the civil war.

Even repeatedly denying that Qaddafi's forces were Libyan by insisting that this was a war by Qaddafi against "the Libyan people" did not change the fact that Qaddafi was winning. Woops. What to do now? Simple solution. We stop other things from "flying".

So we started bombing tanks, military units, artillery and fortifications of Qaddafi. We could not allow these things to "fly" now could we? We were there to stop things from flying and by God we were not going to allow things to fly. So we have extended this non-war no-fly-zone into full scale war - clear to any objective observer who is not a gullible idiot.

Yet Obama still insists it is simply a UN supported no-fly-zone non-war. One more example that you cannot believe anything that Obama says.

NEA Can't Teach Kids To Read,
But It Will Teach Them Orgasms

by Barbara Hollingsworth - March, 7th, 2011 - Washington Examiner

A representative of the National Education Association (NEA), the nation’s largest teachers union, recently told attendees at a United Nations conference on the status of women that “oral sex, masturbation, and orgasms need to be taught in education” worldwide. The advice for promoting sexual activity among children comes [as] union-run schools in the U.S. continue failing to teach children basic reading and math, despite a doubling of education funding in the U.S. since the 1970s.

Our kids can't read, but our teachers want to add classes on "Diversity".

Our kids can't add, but our teachers want to add classes on "Homosexuality".

Our kids don't have a clue what our nation stands for but our teachers want to add classes on "Self Esteem".

Our kids are ignorant of history but our teachers want to add classes on "Masturbation".

Our kids are banned from reading the Ten Commandments but our teachers want to add classes on "Loving Islam".

Our kids do not know why free enterprise leads to freedom but our teachers want the "Pledge of Allegiance" banned.

And all the while they whine and complain that we just don't respect them and don't pay them what they are worth - no matter how many times their salaries are raised.

A lot of our teachers appear to be likable people one on one. However as a group their track record is one of incompetence. They acknowledge a desire to destroy our culture so they can replace it with the superior cultures from the nations we always surpass. Why do they think socialism is better than capitalism? Why do they think atheism is better than Christianity? Why do they hate us so much?

I guess an even better question is why do we tolerate their intolerance and contempt?

Progressive Hypocrisy

There is always a certain degree of delight in having your political opposition self destruct in a truly hypocritical fashion. Progressives constantly pounded on the mantra that George W. Bush's action in Iraq was a "rush to war". However they ignored the fact that Bush got 17 separate U.N. resolutions supporting his action, most of them unanimous with no abstentions. He also got overwhelming approval from both houses of the United States congress. All of this happened before he went on television to tell the American people what he planned to do, in advance of actually doing it.

Barack Obama got ONE resolution and even that resolution had FIVE abstentions. Barack Obama informed congress of his plans to go to war - but did not even bother requesting congressional approval. Nor did he bother to explain what he planned to the American people. He actually left the country instead. This of course is hunky dory with most on the left. The only thing they see is that Obama got UN approval for that one resolution. That makes it all okay.

One resolution versus seventeen UN resolutions for Bush. Congress informed but never consulted, much less votes to support the action as Bush obtained. None of this matters to most on the left.

It is encouraging that some of the more ethical of the left have reacted with disapproval to Obama's acts. However that does not seem to include the subservient main stream media who as usual can find no fault with anything that Obama does.

Budget Deficits And
Now Another War

by Dr. Ada Fisher - Submitted March 22nd, 2011

A twelve trillion plus deficit and now another war which doesn’t directly affect our national security may not only prolong our oil energy dependency but promises to deepen the deficit beyond that which our children can pay. If Gadhafi is good on his promises it also means more domestic terrorism.

Does placing our soldiers under control of the United Nations or other nations impact our national sovereignty to some extent? Why not contribute a pool of volunteers to serve in the UN Forces and let them be under the UN command? What do we lose in letting our soldiers operate under the command of other nations?

Though it may be our belief that democracy is the right course of action to insure the freedom of peoples around the world, is it the United States’ responsibility to go to war to help every rebellion where that specter of possible citizen suppression exists? Is it in our constitution that the USA is in the business of regime change for those countries requesting our help? How can we justify action to prevent the slaughter of citizens in Libya or Kosovo or Bosnia? Where were we on Somalia or Rwanda?

If nothing else history teaches us important lessons:

-When our mission isn’t clear and end points are given away to the purported enemy before the game is even started good, our probability of quick victory diminishes.

-When we know that genocide is happening but wait trying to get consensus to act, the slaughter of millions can occur as did happen with the Jews in Germany.

-When the United States has been in battles for its own sovereignty and territories from the Revolution to the Civil War and other continental territorial expansions, the one nation which clearly protected our southern borders was the nation of Haiti under Toussaint L’Overature. Yet, this is the same nation whose citizens fleeing oppression today in search of democracy are continually turned away from our borders. Will we continue to be unfair to Haiti while we coddle Mexico which is flooding the nation with illegal drugs as well as low skill laborers who compete with the out of work?

The latest conflict in Libya will cost an estimated additional $100 billion dollars annually, so where’s the money coming from? Why are we asking citizens to give up their social security to fight a war on which no congressional discussion has been had? How can Obama plunge into war when he is only willing to reduce the deficit by 6 billion dollars?

Let’s take the cost of the war out of unspent stimulus funds, an unpopular health care bill, eliminate the 40 billion dollar federally subsidized Faith Based Initiatives and 1 billion dollar Totalization Agreement with Mexico which gives them money back for illegal alien social security taxes withheld as well as place a ten percent pay cut and freeze on all federal governmental salaries as long as we are engaged in undeclared wars.

Political Arrogance

"The President does not have the power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation."

—- Sen. Obama, Dec. 20th, 2007

Of course that does not apply to Obama, since he thinks of himself as King.

Inner Banks Humor - Obama

Mobs of people protesting Obama outside the American Embassy in Brazil were met with rubber bullets. When informed that "Brazilians" were protesting him, Obama is reputed to have asked, "How many is a Brazilian? I am just getting used to trillions."

Fukushima Nuclear Plant Status

"The reactors in question were all shut down four days ago. The control rods have been inserted, and the cores have been salted with boron. It is physically impossible for them to sustain a fission reaction of any kind at this point, let alone cause another Chernobyl. Only the fission-byproduct decay heat remains, and it is fading fast as the short half-life material (which accounts for most of the radioactivity) performs its decay reactions and ceases to exist. At this point, the total heating power in the reactors is only about 0.3 percent of what it was when the reactors were operating... The Japanese engineers can certainly deal with that with water cooling. And even if they were to stop, there just isn’t enough heating power in the system anymore to generate a dangerous plume of radioactive materials, which is doubly impossible at this point since all the more active short half-life stuff is already gone."

-- Robert Zubrin

It has been appalling that the only people the press talks to are nuclear experts in the green movement who are paid to oppose nuclear power. They thus allude to vague chances of disaster that might have happened which have already been rendered impossible - and no one calls them on it. That is disgusting. This has been an invented crisis that did not ever come close to a serious consequence. Which is an amazing testament to the safety of nuclear power.

These plants were 40 year old Generation I plants that were already past their planned shutdown dates. They were hit with an earthquake 50 times more powerful than the design parameters were expected to withstand. Immediately thereafter, with no offsite electrical power, they were hit with a tsunami 30% taller than they were designed to withstand - wiping out all the backup diesel generator capacity. And still the cooling process was handled professionally and calmly. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the ranting hysteria driven press who reported the entire process as if the plants were about to become a nuclear bomb at any moment, something that was never a threat. An idiot's fear.

The modern Generation IV plants that are currently being built would have performed with even less residual physical damage from the earthquake and tsunami, which is the only real consequence of this so-called crisis.

Democrats Demand Civility

Civility by Republicans that is.

Sarah Palin is not permitted to "target" Democrats because that would be over the top and intolerable encitement to violence. Of course this sign, typical of many from the Madison, Wisonsin riots, was not encitement to violence. Since a Democrat held the sign it was only "political discourse."

That is a totally different thing "don'tcha know!"

Commissioners Peppered With Questions

by Thadd White - March 15th, 2011 - Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald

The Bertie County Commissioners received more citizen feedback here Monday.

During their regular meeting, the board heard from nearly a dozen of the approximately 80 people who attended the meeting. Most of those who spoke did so to oppose the salary increase given to Bertie County Manager Zee Lamb in August of 2009.

Several of the citizens spoke concerning the 14-page statement released by the commissioners explaining why the board chose to increase Lamb’s salary and travel allowance by approximately 46 percent 18 months ago.

The first person to speak was Ron Wesson. He said that it was his third time addressing the board and said no citizen looked forward to the task.

“I ask this body to vote to retract that increase,” Wesson said of the salary raise for the county manager.

It does not appear that this outrage about the raise is going away. The County Commissioners must end their arrogant indifference to the citizens of this county and rescind this raise. Do they really not understand how ignorant this action was? Do they really not care what the citizens think?

E Pluribus Tucson:
Uprising in Arizona

by Tamara Audi - March 15th, 2011 - Wall Street Journal

TUCSON, Ariz.—On the patio of a downtown bar here last Wednesday night, a handful of people gathered over pitchers of beer to plot the creation of America's 51st state.

With copies of the Arizona constitution before them, they debated how to turn Pima County—a liberal southern swatch of Arizona that borders Mexico and includes Tucson—into "Baja Arizona."

Democrats are proving all over America what childish and contemptible Americans they are -- if you can call them Americans at all. From Texas to Wisconsin, when they lose elections they flee the state to sabotage democracy and make sure that bills they oppose cannot be passed by the majority.

When they win, the mantra is "elections have consequences." When they lose, the mantra is "we will stop at nothing to sabotage democracy."

In Arizona they have started the ultimate campaign to take their ball and go home. They are attempting to organize a secession movement to split off from Arizona.

Women’s Lib In The
Age Of Conservatism

by Dr. Ada Fisher - March 11th, 2011

Defining the role of women in an ever evolving world where the division of labor is not so clear and women are being reared to be whatever they want to, runs smack dab in the face of reality where many still want to define women based on their gender and reproductive capacity not their minds. This is not just a sexist issue but one for conservatives to ponder for though we support marriage between one man and one woman at one time, there aren’t enough men for everyone who might like one. And me, I don’t believe in sharing in this regard.

The Pro-Life segment is depicted as binding women to their uterine roles and desiring to control all expressions of female sexuality. This flies in the face of women who want the right to act like men, “dress like the opposite sex” or loosen the ties that bind. Mama Grizzlies speak with forked tongues as do the Soccer Moms and others who try to convince women, they can have it all. That may be true; but in the process each woman loses a bit of herself in putting others first and neglecting her own needs. These groups also put blame and responsibility mainly on women with little accountability of men for the children they helped produced.

The Single Parent dramas mainly involve young women who do not have the glamorous reality television resources or the money of the single stars who are flaunting their pregnancy and their wealth. Women who chose or are forced to parent alone are more likely to live in poverty, be subjected to limited educational opportunities, become victimized by violence likely at the hands of those who purport to love them, and see this pattern repeated in their offspring. A shocking recent Pew Institute Study presented on NPR found that single parent females were felt the most undesirable group to raise children, placing them below gay parents in general acceptability. Women are being blamed, usurped and held solely accountable for the fruit of their wombs.

Professional women are usually described in non-glowing terms by the mainstream media. Women in politics such as a Sarah Palin or Hilary Clinton or Meg Whitman find the focus of scrutiny on their family and appearance which male candidates don’t face. The harsh questions hurled at women often imply that something must be wrong with them to run -- or no matter their credentials they may not be as good as a man. Housewives are idealized while the legions of them turning to the bottle or pills to drown their pain remain hidden. Doctors, lawyers and others who are women with partners find at the end of their day there are still children to take care of, food to prepare and minimum relief from women’s traditional roles. It is almost as if women are penalized for having a brain and functioning uterus or daring to use them.

The rise of the religious right, Sharia Law in Islam and other conservative movements -- are perceived as a threat to women’s rights. Maybe it is the unchecked ability of men to control women and treat them as chattel property, not an equal, which needs to be examined. “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27 King James Bible) In His image, so why the disparate treatment?

So what do we tell our daughters? Abraham Lincoln said “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” First find something greater than yourself to believe in. Second, develop your mind and the opportunities should follow. Third, you have a right to be whatever you want to be. Fourth give back. And lastly what type of world we have will depend on you for the hand that rocks the cradle truly shapes and rules the world.

Obama Wishes He Was President Of China

by Mark Steyn - March 11th, 2011 - National Review

The President gets a touch of the Thomas Friedmans:

Mr. Obama has told people that it would be so much easier to be the president of China. As one official put it, “No one is scrutinizing Hu Jintao’s words in Tahrir Square.”

For the first time in my life I agree with Barack Obama. I wish he was President of China too!

Inner Banks Humor - Unions

A man who spent his time working for the unions off the books for cash while protesting in Madison, Wisconsin -- became totally dedicated to the cause, or at least "almost" dedicated. After the union lost the vote, he was so outraged he posted the following as a part of his diatribe against the injustice on the Democrat Underground blog.

"I'd almost be willing to get a job in order to participate in A NATIONAL GENERAL STRIKE."

Note the key word, "almost". And that was not a job he planned to dedicate himself to so he could support himself. He was simply going to work long enough to qualify to participate in A NATIONAL GENERAL STRIKE. I guess he liked getting those union wages while he was out protesting.

Press Release
- Friends of Bertie-Rescind the Raise

We have retained one of the best law firms in NC to overturn or rescind the raise of the Bertie County Manager and hold accountable our Bertie County Commissioners. The raise is not supported by the majority of Bertie County citizens. You can find the information on our efforts in Face Book by searching for Friends of Bertie.

Attached is the letter that went to the Bertie County Attorney this afternoon. It outlines that the raise was not transparent and that it was approved outside of the general statutes according to the attorney representing The Friends of Bertie-Rescind the Raise Committee.

Letter to Lloyd Smith

You may also follow the Attachments link below to Google docs to find copies of the general statutes that apply. Look at page 8 to see that we can ask a judge to declare the contract null and void. Our attorney feels we have a very strong case.

Attachments

The citizens of Bertie are going to see this one through to the end. We will raise the money to litigate this and when we win the county will have to pay our legal fees. The commissioners must know we will prevail. Will they really spend even more of our hard earned tax dollars litigating a suit to cover up their bad judgement and lack of transparency. We can hope not, but based on their actions to date, do not hold your breath.

Remember:

In the middle of the last recession, they gave a 46% $52,000 compensation increase to a guy already making 21% more than any county manager in the region.

They did it in closed session and it appears without following the laws required to make it public.

They told all other county employees no one was getting a raise.

3 Commissioner got re-elected without telling the public their actions

They have not been forthcoming since it was discovered. All have defended their actions when not one citizen has spoken publicly in favor of the action. We deserve and demand better from our elected leaders

ObamaCare Anniversary

“We have to pass the bill so you can find out what’s in it.”

-- Nancy Pelosi

The more people "find out what’s in it" the more they dislike it. What an interesting situation we find ourselves in. On this one year anniversary of the most corrupt passage of the most corrupt policy ever adopted by this nation formerly supportive of free enterprise - Government drives forward implementing a bill overwhelmingly opposed by the people.

2010 Census Data
For North Carolina

Some interesting highlights from NC Census Data for 2010

Total Population for NC - 9,535,483

White population - 68.5%

Black population - 21.5%

Hispanic population - 8.4%

Total Population for Bertie County - 21,282

Bertie County black population - 62.5%

(#1 county in the state in percentage of black population)

The five adjacent counties of Bertie, Hertford, Northampton, Edgecombe, and Halifax constitute a pocket of the only counties in our state with signficantly more than 50% of the county being black. Politics in this area will therefore consistently be extremely progressive, bordering on socialist. Big government dependence is the politics of nearly 90% of America's black population.

The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald has an article with other Census data that is of interest. That article can be found
here.

Republicans And Democrats
Fiddle While America Burns

Last month America had the worst deficit in our nations history, $223 Billion. That is not what we spent. That is what we spent in excess of what we had available to spend -- and thus had to borrow from foreigners -- mostly China.

Democrats under Obama have increased our federal spending $1 Trillion over the last two years. They insist that not a penny of this increase can be cut. Actually that is an exaggeration. They actually agree that .0016 of the budget can be cut. That is slightly over one hundredth of a penny on the dollar.

Republicans propose that we cut the increase -- the $1 Trillion increase over the previous spending (of the already inflated budget of George W. Bush) -- by a paltry $61 Billion (1.7% of the budget), as if that pitiful amount matters at a time when Obama has shoved his foot down on the spending throttle so far that our nation is rocketing towards bankruptcy.

The Democrat controlled CBO reports there is $200 Billion in waste and duplicate programs in the budget for 2012 -- and neither party acts as if there is any willingness to simply cut this already identified waste. They all avoid talking about the CBO report, ignoring the clear evidence that these cuts could be made quickly. $200 Billion! Clearly both parties want to ignore the CBO report and talk about their fiddling around instead.

If anyone had a doubt how Nero allowed Rome to be destroyed, they need only watch the idiots in our current government in Washington fiddle while our nation burns.

Inner Banks Philosophy

For progressives, the one thing that absolutely can not be tolerated is true freedom, the liberty of the individual. This was stated eloquently by one of the heroes of left wing thought, Jean-Jacques Rousseau. He believed that if you permitted individual freedom the “social compact” would be “an empty formula.” The core of the utopia the left envisions, the “undertaking which alone can give force to the rest,” was quite simply this: “Whoever refuses to obey the general will shall be compelled to do so by the whole body.”

The arrogant belief that statist power has the right to compel everyone to think and act alike should frighten all who have experienced the individual freedom of America. Yet, for some incredible reason, Democrats have no problem with the idea of the state making you conform to the state's beliefs of how you are expected to act.

This nation is at war over that simple dichotomy. It is not a political disagreement. It is war.

Outcry Continues
Over Lamb’s Pay Hike

by Cal Bryant - March 5th, 2011 - Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald

Mr. Lamb has had accomplishments as our county manager. That is what is expected. There are many in the county that would also argue his accomplishments have come with a cost. However, this story is not about that. It is about how in the depths of our greatest recession, our executive, already significantly leading the region in compensation, receiv[ed] a 46% compensation increase when everyone else is being told to hold the line. Also, it is about how the commissioners were not forthcoming and transparent when the raise occurred or when it was first brought to light. This county manager increase over 10 years will cost the county over $500,000.

This is a war of determination. The Bertie County Commissioners are convinced that it is so long until they come up for re-election that they can simply ignore those who are upset. They still are so arrogantly indifferent to what the people are angry about that they do not believe they will be held accountable. The last sentence in this article by "Friends of Bertie – Rescind the Raise" notes, Zee Lamb will receive a half million dollars MORE than he would already have made as the highest paid county manager in this area.

This is not just. This must not stand.

Unemployment Rate Scam

The lies being foisted on the American public about reduced unemployment are based on a single statistic, the so-called unemployment rate. It is claimed this has now dropped to 8.9%. However what Obama never mentions is the "exclusions" that are used to make the rate look better.

Currently the government con artists are reducing the size of the "labor market" included in the calculation. In 2007, under Bush, the so-called "participation rate" in the labor market was 67.1%. Today, under Obama, that "participation rate" is down to 63.9%. This artificial reduction in the labor force is a scam. What it does is allow Obama to pretend that 3% of Americans, more than 10 million people, are not considered unemployed even though they are unemployed.

They are simply excluded from the labor force by statistical manipulation. Most of the 10 million people who had jobs under the evil Bush but who have lost their jobs are no longer even considered relevant under Obama. Their hunger and lack of opportunity to work is ignored. They don't count. They are no longer a part of the ""labor force" you see.

If they were counted, the unemployment rate would be over 12%!

Inner Banks Editorial
- Mob Damages Capitol

News today is that the left wing mob that took over the Capitol building in Wisconsin has intentionally damaged marble in the main hall. Repairs are expected to cost in the millions of dollars (one estimate by government personnel is more than seven million dollars).

Based on previous experience with the huge crowds the Tea Party Rallies have drawn, and the pristine shape they left the mall in, it is too bad that left wing mobs do not have the respect for the peoples property of right wing crowds. It is the difference in trashing the space and the damages they leave that justifies calling the left wing a mob and the right wing a crowd.

A judge has ordered the left wing mob out of the Capitol. Too bad he did not order them to pay for the damage they caused.

Citizens Question
Lamb’s Pay Hike

by Thadd White - March 1st, 2011 - Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald

“Ya’ll have a problem,” Bertie County Republican Party Chairman Garry Terry said. “Citizens are here to ask for an explanation as to the incredible increase in the county manager’s salary.”

Terry told the board they had the opportunity to show leadership and answer the questions of the citizens...

... John Davis, said he had received a copy of the contract between the Bertie County Commissioners and Lamb.

He said he didn’t know how other county employees felt since only Lamb and Assistant County Manager Morris Rascoe had received raises, but he knew how he would feel in their place.

He also questioned Lamb’s performance as County Manager.

“I can’t find a single statistic the county manager leads the region in,” he said. “Please tell us one statistic that he leads the region.”

It is unfortunate - however clearly Lamb leads the region in one statistic - the percent of salary increase for a single year. And in that statistic he is WAY ahead. It still astounds me that these County Commissioners think that there is any defense for raising the County Manager of a small county like Bertie to a salary level that is higher than the Governor of our State.

To actually try and defend this, as our County Commissioners are doing, is an insult. They must think we are stupid. They are clearly overly impressed with the belief that they are the center of the universe. They obviously do not believe that running the State is any more difficult than ruling Bertie County. Because that is the bottom line. They do not think they serve the county. They think they rule the county. The question is, will we let them continue this arrogant belief?

Here is the staff getting ready for a great new season of fish lunches.

Last year the crowd was standing room only within minutes of the doors opening.

The Seagull always specializes in Fresh Herring and Roe when available. They also have Salt Herring, Trout Fillets, plus North Carolina Oysters and Shrimp.

The Seagull Cafe is the favorite place for farmers and workers in the area, as it has been for many years. It is famous, and there are a couple of rich developers who always fly in on their helicopters to eat every season. Now THAT is an endorsement, when someone flys in from Virginia to eat at a place this far off the beaten trail. The Chowan River is a beautiful place for this tremendous cafe.

The view from the Seagull always shows the Chowan River at its best. The small Cafe is located by the river near the end of River Road, close to the Colerain Beach Club.
