Bertie Superintendent Suspended

by Thadd White - July 17th, 2010 - Roanoke Chowan News Herald

The Bertie County Board of Education has suspended Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chip Zullinger.

In correspondence Friday afternoon, Dr. Zullinger was informed by School Board Attorney Rod Malone that the school board had voted to suspend him with pay.

“I am writing to inform you that the Board of Education has voted to suspend you with pay, effective immediately, pursuant to N.C. State Board Policy TCP-D-000 and Section 15 of your employment contract dated August 30, 2007,” Malone’s letter said.

The board met Thursday evening in closed session on personnel matters, but did not vote upon exiting closed session.

The letter from Malone also prohibited the superintendent from returning to work at any school facility without the approval of the board of education or to remotely access the school’s computer system.

Malone’s letter also indicated this was the first step in removing Dr. Zullinger from his position.

I cannot understand why these 4 board members want to remove Chip Zullinger. He cares about the children of Bertie County. He wants to get them access to the Internet so they can get ahead in life. In the process our entire community will gain access in areas of our county that would otherwise never see Internet access. Wow. How intolerable. We can't actually spend any money to do that. Bertie County has to get it free or they will do without.

So get ready to do without.
