N.C. Volunteers Sprang
Into Action After Storm
by Jeff Hampton - May 1st, 2011 - The Virginian-Pilot
Fire Chief Milton Felton watched from his kitchen window as the giant twister barreled over an open field. It had already demolished a nearby mobile home park and killed a woman, and it was moving fast.
Felton and his wife, Mary, a registered nurse, jumped in his truck and sped toward Glovers Cross Road about two miles away and in the tornado's path. He called members of the Cole-rain Volunteer Fire Department and chiefs in other communities for help.
A great article about our local volunteers and the incredible job they performed in response to the monster Askweville-Colerain tornado.
